Written by David Skidmore, Emeritus Professor of Plant Health and an expert in trees and the natural world, the story combines an engaging adventure with a genuine appreciation of woodland habitats and wildlife.

The story is brought to life through the expressive illustrations of Matt Buckingham, whose artwork captures Pip’s adventure with drama, humour and plenty of woodland detail for young readers to discover.

Discover Lovell Quinta Arboretum

Set within the beautiful Lovell Quinta Arboretum in Cheshire, the story celebrates this special woodland and the remarkable collection of trees and plants found there.

The 28-acre Arboretum was created by Sir Bernard Lovell in the 1950s. Best known for founding and developing the world-famous radio telescope at Jodrell Bank, Sir Bernard was also passionate about trees and plants. He transformed the grounds at Quinta from open grassland into a remarkable collection of trees, shrubs and plants gathered from around the world.

Today, the Arboretum is home to around 2,500 different plants, including rare and unusual trees, shrubs, champion trees and National Plant Collections. There are peaceful woodland walks, meadows, a lake and plenty of wildlife to discover along the way.
